yeah im sure they have. its bad when the valves break and that sodium in there mixes with water from the coolant. kablooie!

those big diesels have sodium filled valves to displace heat. sodium metal. it reacts violently to water(coolant). it is rare when they throw a rod, usually this happens when a valve breaks and the head gasket blows(usually hand in hand). but its nasty.
